Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell has welcomed news of a boost for farmers whose property was damaged during the recent bad winter weather.
Mr Mundell, who holds regular meetings with farmers, has welcomed a £3 million support package for farmers who have had buildings damaged by the recent big freeze.
The Scottish Government’s Severe Weather Grant Scheme has been extended to provide support to farmers whose properties were damaged during the recent spell of snow and ice.
Mr Mundell said: “Dumfriesshire and parts of the Borders bore the brunt of the worst winter weather we have experienced since the 1960s. A number of farmers in my constituency were particularly badly hit and suffered from significant property damage due to the sheer volume of snow on buildings and sheds.
“I am pleased that the Scottish Government has made available this money and I hope it will be distributed quickly and fairly to ensure there is minimal disruption to farmers. I would urge those all those who have been affected to apply for the grants which are available.
“With many farmers already struggling financially, it is important that we get any problems resolved as quickly as possible in order to get the industry back on its feet.”
